Now Non-Resident Indians can make UPI payments through Paytm using their international mobile numbers. The feature eliminates the need for a local Indian SIM card and works with NRE (Non-Resident External) or NRO (Non-Resident Ordinary) bank accounts directly to the Paytm app.
Available across 12 countries
This feature is available in 12 countries- Singapore, Australia, Canada, Oman, Qatar, the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, France, and Malaysia. The NRIs can also now use the Paytm app to send money, pay merchants through QR codes, and shop on Indian platforms without currency conversions or international payment gateways.

The instant fund transfers to UPI or mobile numbers help in bypassing the traditional remittance delays and foreign exchange charges, making money transfers and payments quicker, more secur,e and easier to manage.
NPCI-backed
The initiative is powered by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), which oversees the UPI network. Right now its in beta testing phase, the feature will soon be available to all eligible users.

Onboarding for the NRIs
The NRIs need to download the Paytm app, log in with their international number, verify via SMS, and link their bank account. The company positions this launch as part of its broader financial inclusion strategy, aimed at keeping Indians worldwide connected to India’s digital payments ecosystem.
