Google is set to invest $10 billion to establish a 1-gigawatt (GW) data centre cluster in Visakhapatnam, marking its first major infrastructure investment of this scale in India. The cluster will span three campuses located at Adavivaram and Tarluvada in Visakhapatnam district and Rambilli in Anakapalli district. The facilities are scheduled to be operational by July 2028.

Final Approvals and Agreements

The agreement’s final terms are expected to be settled when Google’s top executives meet Andhra Pradesh’s IT & Electronics Minister Nara Lokesh in New Delhi on October 14. The State Investment Promotion Board, led by Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, has already given its approval to the hyperscale data centre project.

Economic Impact & Job Creation

According to government releases and independent assessments, the initiative is projected to contribute around Rs 10,518 crore annually to the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) over the first five years (2028–2032) and is expected to support roughly 1,88,220 direct and indirect jobs each year across construction, operations, engineering, IT, and supply chain sectors.

Beyond direct operations, Google Cloud’s productivity effects are forecast to generate an additional Rs 9,553 crore per year through digital enablement, amounting to Rs 47,720 crore over five years.

National & Regional Significance

At the national level, comparable digital infrastructure hubs are anticipated to unlock up to $2.1 trillion in value addition and support 10 million jobs by 2047. The Andhra Pradesh government has branded Visakhapatnam as “AI City Vizag”, signalling its ambition to transform the region into a global hub for AI, cloud computing, and data analytics. The project is seen as a testament to rising global investor confidence in Andhra Pradesh’s governance and execution capabilities.
