India Secures Leading Spot in All 10 Study Groups of ITU’s Standardization Sector
The ITU’s study groups are elected for a tenure of 4 years in every World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (WTSA).

As the ITUWTSA 2024 spangs its 10-day-long assembly in India, Indian candidates have been able to secure leading spots in all 10 study groups of ITU’s Standardization Sector (ITU-T). 

Positions Secured

 
“While India retained the Chair position in one group, it secured Vice-Chair positions in all other 9 Study Groups and the SCV Committee, thereby increasing its leadership positions in ITU-T from 7 in WTSA-2022 to 11 positions in WTSA-2024,” the Ministry of Communications said in a statement on Saturday.

Tenure 


Since ITU’s study groups are renewed every 4 years, these members will be pivotal for the coming 4 years as the main agenda on the table of ITU remains to be the standardization initiatives and activities in emerging technologies and resolutions on topics such as AI, Metaverse, OTT and Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), among many. 

Study Groups, Positions Secured 


An ITU study group is a group of technical experts who develop international standards for telecommunication technologies based on the inputs received from the members of ITU. Chairs and Vice-chairs of the groups are elected during the WTSA. 

India has secured a Chair position for one study group and a Vice-chair position for 10 other study groups. These are as follows:
