The Rajasthan government is planning a dedicated greenfield township to house data centers designed to meet the increasing demands of Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications. Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, announced the initiative during the Rising Rajasthan Investment Summit. The proposed township will be strategically located near the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, ensuring seamless connectivity to major commercial hubs and convenient access to Delhi and Jaipur airports.
Leveraging Rajasthan's renewable energy advantage
Rajasthan’s renewable energy potential positions it as a preferred destination for such an ambitious project. With an installed renewable capacity of 29.98 GigaWatt and vast land availability for solar power installations, the state is well-equipped to cater to the energy-intensive needs of global data centers. Highlighting these strengths, Goyal said, “A lot of solar energy capacity is coming up in Rajasthan. Ample land is available for solar plants. Data centers all over the world are hungry for green energy sources or sustainability. If the city can be run on renewables, it will be attractive to the whole world.”
A vision to create a global AI hub
Piyush Goyal emphasised that linking Rajasthan’s renewable energy capabilities with the development of green data centers could pave the way for the state to emerge as a global hub for AI innovation. “Rajasthan has all the attractions, like sustainability,” he remarked. “Linking it with green data centers, we can make a global AI hub in Rajasthan. Companies like Nvidia and IBM will welcome it.”This visionary project reflects the government's commitment to sustainable development and positions Rajasthan as a leading player in the global AI and renewable energy landscape.
