Meta has announced that its AI-powered Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses will soon be available in India. While the tech giant has yet to confirm an exact release date, the reveal has already created a buzz among tech enthusiasts and fashion-forward consumers alike.

Next-Gen Glasses with Built-In AI

These sleek and stylish glasses offer more than just eye protection—they deliver a truly hands-free experience. With built-in Meta AI, wearers can ask questions on the go, access real-time information, and stay connected without pulling out their phone. In a press statement, Meta highlighted the glasses’ appeal: “These stylish glasses offer everyday wearability and help you be more present with friends, family, and the world around you by letting you capture a moment or listen to music while your phone stays in your pocket.”

A Fresh Arrival Two Years in the Making

The upcoming Indian debut comes nearly two years after Meta first entered the smart eyewear market with the launch of Ray-Ban Stories in partnership with EssilorLuxottica, the company behind the Ray-Ban brand. The second-generation Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses were officially launched in September 2023 and have since been making waves internationally. India will now join countries like Mexico and the United Arab Emirates as part of Meta’s latest rollout plan.

Real-Time Multilingual Translation—No Internet Required

Meta also announced the expansion of Meta AI access across several EU countries. A standout feature is the glasses’ ability to provide real-time translations in English, French, Italian, and Spanish. The glasses can recognise a spoken language and play the translation in the listener’s preferred language—an impressive capability that works even offline, provided the necessary language pack is downloaded in advance.

More Features on the Horizon

The glasses are set to become even more functional. Soon, users will be able to send and receive messages, photos, and even make audio and video calls directly through Instagram. In addition, the feature allowing users to ask Meta AI to play music is expanding to more countries beyond the US and Canada. Streaming services like Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, and Shazam are all supported.
